How to Convert JPG to PNG Online Free

Convert JPG images to PNG to add transparency support, enable lossless editing, or prepare graphics for design work. Free and instant.

Converting JPG to PNG is useful when you need lossless quality, transparent backgrounds, or want to edit an image without generation loss. It is free and instant — here is exactly when and how to do it.

When to Convert JPG to PNG

  • You need transparency: A JPG photo placed on a design needs its background removed — PNG supports this, JPG does not
  • You will edit and re-save multiple times: PNG is lossless, so you will not lose quality each time you save
  • The image has sharp text or edges: Screenshots, UI mockups, and diagrams look sharper as PNG
  • You are creating a master file for future use: PNG preserves all original data for future conversions
  • Note: Converting JPG to PNG does NOT recover quality that was lost when the JPG was originally compressed. The PNG will be a lossless copy of the already-compressed JPG data.

How to Convert JPG to PNG (Free)

1. Open the JPG to PNG converter 2. Select your JPG file(s) 3. Conversion runs in your browser — no upload, no account 4. Download your PNG files Multiple files can be converted at once.

Will the PNG Be Better Quality Than the JPG?

No. Converting JPG to PNG creates a lossless copy of the JPG's existing data. The compression artefacts already in the JPG are preserved exactly in the PNG. The PNG is larger (not compressed), but the visible quality is identical to the JPG source. If you want better quality, you need the original uncompressed file. Converting does not improve quality — it just changes the format.

JPG to PNG File Size: What to Expect

  • PNG files are significantly larger than JPG:
  • A 500KB JPG photo will typically become a 2–5MB PNG
  • A 100KB JPG screenshot will typically become a 300KB–1MB PNG
  • This is expected and correct — PNG stores the data losslessly. If you need a small file, stay with JPG or convert to WebP.

Transparent Backgrounds After Converting

Converting JPG to PNG does not automatically add transparency. The background remains white or whatever colour it was in the JPG. To remove a background after converting, use the Background Remover.
