How to Resize Your Photo for Zoom, Teams, and Video Calls

The right profile photo dimensions for Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, and other video conferencing tools.

Your profile photo is what people see when your camera is off — which is often. A blurry or oddly-cropped photo looks unprofessional. Here are the exact dimensions for every major video conferencing platform.

General Best Practices

  • All video call platforms display profile photos as circles — but you upload a square image. This means:
  • Keep the main subject (your face) centred — the corners will be cut off
  • Leave some space around your head — don't fill the entire frame
  • Use a clean background — busy backgrounds look unprofessional
  • Upload at least 400×400 pixels — smaller images look pixelated when enlarged
  • Recommended upload size for all platforms: 600×600 to 1000×1000 pixels.

How to Resize Your Photo

1. Open ImageResize.co/resize 2. Upload your photo 3. Set width and height to 600 (or 1000 for the sharpest result) 4. Enable Maintain aspect ratio if your photo is already square, or enter equal values to force a square output 5. Download and upload to your video call platform

Improving Your Profile Photo Quality

  • Use natural light: Face a window for even, flattering light — avoid overhead lighting
  • Clean background: A plain wall or use Remove Background to replace with white
  • Head and shoulders: Crop the photo to show face and shoulders — not just a face, not a full body
  • Compress if needed: If the file is too large, Compress to 200KB — quality is maintained at this size

Zoom Virtual Background Dimensions

  • For Zoom virtual backgrounds:
  • Recommended: 1920×1080 px (16:9)
  • Minimum: 1280×720 px
  • File size: Under 5MB for images, under 50MB for videos
  • Format: JPG or PNG
  • Use our Image Resizer to resize any image to 1920×1080 for use as a virtual background.
